A fantastic crowd was on hand on a perfect Saturday evening at Kawartha Downs to watch the adorable miniature horses perform in two races in addition to the regular card of Standardbred racing.

Six horses competed in the first mini event, the gallop, which was won by Coors with one of Kawartha Downs’ leading drivers, Nick Boyd, in the bike. Emma Christoforou, driving Double Fistin Budz, was a close second.

A five-year-old gelding, Coors was the most experienced mini in the field having raced in 10 of these events so far in his career. He is owned and trained by Nicole Henry.

The second mini race was a Kids Trot race, which saw youngsters Ava MacDonald, Lane and Blake Riley and Brody Nicholson accompany the accomplished drivers on the minis.

Boyd was also back in the winner's circle after winning with pacing mare Royal Engagement in the seventh harness race. It was the third straight win for the Stonebridge Regal seven-year-old mare trained by Tommy Riley for Brett Riley of Roseneath, Ont.

Racing returns next Saturday night with a 7 p.m. post time.
