Maxim Seelster ($2.70) and driver Bob McClure delivered as the 1-5 favourites in the featured $7,500 Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace on Wednesday (June 7) at Grand River Raceway.

The popular Rene Bourassa trainee claimed the lead through a :28 opening quarter and rebuffed the first-over challenge from Miss Brandy K (Robert Shepherd) through middle splits of :56.4 and 1:27.3 en route to the one and a half length triumph in 1:57.1. Sr Beach Babe (Colin Kelly) and Dixie Lullaby (Scott Coulter) close from the back of the eight-horse field to take second and third-place honours.

Maxim Seelster earned the first win of her four-year-old season in eight attempts and 10th victory lifetime. The Big Jim-Mistreos mare, who has earnings just shy of $90,000, is owned by M&s Racing Stable Inc. of Rockwood, Ont.

The victory in the featured 10th race finale capped off a four-win night for McClure, the current local and national win leader.
