Mach Three Fund To Assist Street Youth

In honour of the prolific Standardbred stallion Mach Three, Tara Hills stallioneer Pat Lang has established a scholarship fund in partnership with The Refuge Youth Outreach Centre in Oshawa, Ont.

Following Mach Three's passing in January, Lang has worked to set up the Mach Three Fund with Genevieve Brydson, Director of Development at The Refuge, to keep the stallion's spirit alive and serve as inspiration for the homeless and street youth at the Durham region drop-in centre.

"It was such an honour and privilege to work with Mach Three," Lang told Trot Insider after his passing. "Very few horses had his qualities."

Mach Three, who has been named as one of the 2017 Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame inductees, possessed qualities that are inspirational to all the people who knew and loved him. He was courageous, mentally and physically tough, yet kind and gentle. He had integrity, empathy and compassion. His character never varied and he taught so much to those who worked with him and watched him race.

To this end, in his honour, a scholarship fund called the Mach Three Fund has been set up in partnership with The Refuge to support the education of local homeless and street involved youth -- one who displays the honourable characteristics of Mach Three.

This award will also honour the memory of Jamie Lang, who possessed the characteristics of Mach Three and more.
