Wrangler Magic defeated the popular pacesetter, Sandbetweenurtoes, for the second week in a row in the $30,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace featured early Friday evening (March 10) at Woodbine Racetrack.

Driver Louis-Philippe Roy was able to work out a perfect pocket trip aboard the Rene Allard trainee and come through along the pylons to score the 1:53 victory on Friday.

Exhilarated (Jonathan Drury) fired to the front from post five ahead of inside starter Sandbetweenurtoes (Doug McNair), with Wrangler Magic parked and pressing from post three through a :27.4 opening quarter. As Wrangler Magic cleared to command, McNair sent Sandbetweenurtoes underway and took over the top spot in the backstretch. The even-money favourite carved out middle splits of :56.2 and 1:25.1 with the outer flow starting to develop, but she remained clear on top into the stretch where Wrangler Magic shot through to her inside to score the one and a quarter-length victory. Exhilarated had a slight edge in a three-across finish for third-place honours.

Wrangler Magic paid $4.90 to win as the 7-5 second choice in the six-horse field.

The five-year-old Mach Three-Ja El Shamrock mare now boasts three wins and two second-place finishes from seven starts this year for earnings of $63,500. The victory was her 13th lifetime and pushed her bankroll over the $900,000 mark.

Wrangler Magic is owned by Allard Racing Inc. of Saint-Esprit, Que., breeder Dr. Maurice Stewart of Leduc, Alta., and Kapildeo Singh of Yorktown Heights, New York.
