Fillies Battle In Nova Scotia Stakes

Three-year-old pacing fillies found themselves in the spotlight at Inverness Raceway on Sunday, as the half-mile oval hosted a set of divisions of the Nova Scotia Stakes

. Each split carried a purse of $6,450.

Mooshy Mooshy Bea, who was sent off as the co-favourite in her five-filly assignment, rallied to an impressive victory for trainer/driver Danny Romo. The daughter of Force Of Life-Helen O Grace stalked Yankee Dancer through panels of :29.2, 1:00.1 and 1:30.2 before overtaking drawing off to win by 4-3/4 lengths over that foe in 2:00.4. Nelliesyankeebelle was a distant third.

Brian Dowie and Kenneth MacNeil of Sydney, NS share ownership on the pacing lass, who now boasts a 4-2-2 record from 13 trips to the track in 2011. The lion’s share of the purse lifted her lifetime earnings over $9,000.

Diamond Coast pulled off a mild upset in the second division for trainer/driver Gilles Barrieau. The daughter of Coastocoast Yankee-Dotted Diamonds got away fourth and watched Whistys Pride supply the field with fractions of :29.2, :59.4 and 1:29.1. Barrieau asked Diamond Coast to sprint in the late stages of the mile, and her :29.2 final frame was good enough to brush to the front and drive away to win by 3-1/2 lengths over Whistys Pride in 1:59.2. Ella Finesse took home the show dough.

Dan Belliveau of Halifax, NS holds the ownership papers on the seven-time winner, who has put together a 4-6-0 record in 17 starts this season after going 3-for-11 last season. She has stashed away in excess of $19,000 this year and more than $27,000 to date.
