Sock It Away Seeks Fifth Straight

Sock It Away has been the hottest horse in Eastern Canadian harness racing in recent weeks and the pacer will search for his fifth straight win in the featured Preferred pace on Sunday afternoon (Jan. 16) at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

The Capital oval had a 13-dash card scheduled for Saturday afternoon but racing officials have tentatively rescheduled the program for Sunday afternoon at 12:30 P.M. due to an impending weather system.

The $3,200 preferred pace hits the track in Race 12 with Sock It Away assigned the outside Post 5 with Marc Campbell back in the seat for trainer Kevin MacLean and owner Reg MacPherson of Stratford. The Pang Shui seven-year-old has tasted defeat very seldom in his career with 35 wins from 52 lifetime starts and $137,578 in the bank.

Mikey Camden will make his second winter start on P.E.I. from Post 4 with David Dowling at the controls for trainer Colin Johnson. The 10-year-old son of Camluck will look to push himself over $100,000 in career earnings in the race with just $791 remaining until the milestone is reached. Completing the preferred field are Doc Darryl (Colin Sheppard), My Land (Jason Hughes) and Mc Pat (Gilles Barrieau).

The Post Time Picks have Peter MacPhee thinking history will repeat itself with another preferred score for Sock It Away.

“That was some performance Sock It Away put in last week sprinting home in :27.2 and winning for fun in 1:57.3. He gets the same track, same post, same driver, and another trip to the winner’s circle this week.”

Bludhaven makes his Island debut in the seventh race of the day with $2,100 at stake. Dowling nows trains and drives the five-year-old Rockin Image gelding for new owner Brittany Watts of Springvale. The pacer has two lifetime wins to his credit with his 1:56.2 record taken over Hoosier Park in Indiana.
