The Raceway at Western Fair District will be hosting a Caretaker Appreciation Day on Friday, Dec. 3.

The caretakers -- the people who look after the magnificent horses that race night in and night out -- are recognized as part of Standardbred Canada’s National Caretaker Appreciation initiative. This marks the fourth consecutive year these events have been taking place at racetracks across the country.

During the weekend of September 20-26, tracks, stables and training centres across the country hosted events recognizing and rewarding caretakers in different ways. Racetracks who weren’t racing during that time had the option of hosting a fall event. The Raceway’s event will be supported by the Central Ontario Standardbred Association (COSA), which will provide HPI cards for one winner from each race on the card. The Raceway will also conduct random prize draws throughout the evening for swag bags.

Post time for the card of racing on Friday, Dec. 3 is 4:50 p.m.

The 2021 fall race season at The Raceway at Western Fair District kicked off in October. Live harness racing takes place each Monday, Wednesday and Friday through December 31. The half-mile oval's cards will now begin at 5:50 p.m. instead of 6:30 p.m. Friday post time is 4:50 p.m.
