Shadow - Slowly But Surely

Another tough week - rain Monday, Tuesday and no sun until about 11am Wednesday morning making track conditions difficult and further complicating the training process again.

After working the track for an hour Wednesday at 11 am, I was able to go a 1+1/2 mile training session with Shadow, last 1/2 in 1:09. I did that because I only had a 1/2 hour before I had to go and catch a plane. He was jogged 6 miles the remaining days of the week and after my arrival back home about 5:45 Saturday evening and listening to the weather forecast (yes - but only 10 more cm of snow and freezing rain and rain Monday + Tuesday also), I decided to train him an evening session along with 2 other 3 year olds I have. This depressing Spring on PEI has enticed me to do things that I have rarely ever done before. However, I got 2 singles in before dark on a much improved track, with Shadow strong in 2:04 off a half in 1:03 and three quarters in 1:35. He did it with ease in the middle of my track and seemed very happy after. We left the barn at 9pm as the now freezing rain was on its way down.

Is there anybody out there that knows how to get the sun down here? Shadow and I sure would appreciate it.

Thanks for the updates Dr Moore, much appreciated by a maritime racing fan, glad to see Shadow getting better in spite of the weather, but after Yonkers last fall we know he can handle some maritime weather, Horse to horse, he gave the Beach his best race ever. Would like to hear how Malicious, Outstanding, and Well There You go are training down if you could steal time from your hectic schedule. Can't wait for Shadow to show Mr Big his hind end.

My 3 colts are all doing well. They have been in 25 at home, but have lots of jog miles and less training miles this year than usual cuz of you know what. The Bettors Delight colt seems to lead the pack for the moment.

Mr. Moore, is Shadow Play's original race itinerary still in place despite the weather impacting his training? May is right around the corner.

We are still shooting for May 22 at Western Fair, but I will need to get some fast miles in him in a hurry now and hopefully qualify at home around the 1st part of May before shipping to Ontario.

MR MOORE if I had a horse worth that much money, I would have been in Florida all winter enjoying every minute of a horsemans dream.

That would have been awful nice, but I do have another full time career to tend to. Shadow Play, however has opened up some options in that regard for future years.

sounds like it's been the typical Maritime spring but I would expect nothing else knowing that the weather could change in a few minutes out east. All good things come to those who wait. You've got the April showers almost over so maybe things will look better know that Easter is over with.

Looking forward to seeing Shadow Play race this year.

This winter and this "Spring" so far in the Maritimes have been a lot harsher than the most recent 10 years down here that's for sure, but yes, hopefully better days ahead.
