March Madness Online Handicapping Challenge Terms and Conditions
1. The Standardbred Canada (SC) March Madness Online Challenge will be conducted on Saturdays: March 1, 8, 15 and 22. The contests will open on the Thursday prior to each Saturday and close at noon (est) on the contest day. No purchase is necessary.
There is no cost to register. Contest is open to Canadian residents, 18 years of age or older as of the date of registration, and has Internet access at time of registration. The contest is void in whole where prohibited by law.
2. The contest will close for entries at noon EST on each contest day. (March 1, 8, 15 and 22).
3. The top five players (based on bankrolls) from each contest day will qualify for the March Madness Championship Round on Saturday, March 29. Players who qualify will be contacted via e-mail at the e-mail address or phone number provided on the entry form. Once a player qualifies, he/she should not compete in other rounds.
a) In the event of a tie, the player with the most number of winners will be awarded the win. If there is still a tie, then the player with the most number of horses that finished second will win. If there is still a tie after that, then officials will conduct a random draw to determine the winning player.
b) Horses assigned due to scratches do count as your selections for all tie-breaking procedures.
4. The top five players from the four rounds will compete in the Championship Round on Saturday, March 29 and must submit their selections, via email no later than noon (EST) on Saturday, March 29.
5. Players will select one horse in each of 8 contest races. Contest races will be selected from Flamboro Downs, Northlands and Woodbine. Players will be awarded a $2 win and $2 place wager on the horses they select. If a player’s horse finishes first or second, he will be awarded the official payout for a $2 wager in his/her bankroll. In the event of the cancellation of any of the contest races, or refund in any of the contest races, the contest will be based on the remaining number of races, provided there are at least 4 races remaining.
If there are less than 4 contest races remaining, then the round will be canceled and Contest Officials will determine how to replace the round or increase the number of people who qualify at the next round or from previous rounds if it is the final round. If the contest is cancelled in the Championship Round, Contest Officials will determine a new date for the Championship Round and will advise Players via email and via standardbredcanada.ca
6. If a player’s selected horse is scratched prior to post time, he/she will be assigned the post time favourite.
7. Only one entry per contest date will be accepted per individual and e-mail address. Multiple entries will result in immediate disqualification. SC reserves the right to disqualify any contestant which SC believes has submitted more than one entry. Submissions with incomplete, bogus or invalid names and/or e-mail addresses will not be accepted.
8. Employees, Directors and immediate family who reside at the same residence as Standardbred Canada, The Meadowlands or any provincial racing commission employees are not eligible for this contest.
9. No faxed, mailed, electronically mailed, or phoned-in entries are allowed.
10. SC assumes no responsibility for lost, late, misdirected, ineligible or mutilated entries. SC is not responsible for lost, interrupted or unavailable hardware or software or telephone transmission or technical failures, garbled or jumbled transmission or other errors of any kind, whether human, mechanical, or electronic. Once submitted, entries become the sole property of SC and will not be returned.
11. SC reserves the sole right to interpret all questions and conditions in regard to this contest.
12. Anything not covered in these rules will be ruled on by the management of SC and their decision will be final and binding.
13. Contestants, by entering the contest, agree to be bound by the above rules and regulations.
14. The first and second place finishers (based on bankroll) in the Championship Round on March 29 will each be awarded a spot in the World Harness Handicapping Championship on April 19, 2014 at The Meadowlands. In addition a travel voucher of $500 for each of the finishers will be provided. The prize is NOT transferable. In the event that the first or second place finisher can not attend, then the prize will be offered to the third place finisher.
