Bonnie Zubrod Passes

Bonnie Jean Zubrod, 89, of Louisville, Ky., passed away with her family by her side Thursday, Sept. 28. Her son, Art, manages Brittany Farms.

She was a native of Louisville, daughter of the late Marvin and Gladys Tuggle. She was a graduate of the Louisville Girls School and attended the University of Louisville.

Bonnie was a pioneer as a woman in the Saddlebred industry in Louisville and became a Hall of Famer of the United Professional Horsemen's Association. She opened Zubrod Stables, where she was a trainer and instructor. Her daughter Cindy continues to run Zubrod Stables today, along with her two granddaughters, Deveau and Renee.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years, Arthur Bell Zubrod, Jr.

She is survived by her children, Arthur Bell Zubrod, III of Versailles, KY, with his wife, Leah D. Cheverie and a daughter Mary Cynthia Zubrod Boel of Prospect, KY; two granddaughters, Deveau Zubrod (Michael Kretizer) and Renee Philpott (J. R. Philpott); and great-grandchildren Campbell Ream Kretizer, Rhodes Bell Kreitzer and Evelyn Reid Philpott.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, October 2 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 3345 Lexington Road with burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 2:00 - 7:00 p.m. Sunday at Ratterman Funeral Home, 3711 Lexington Road in the "St. Matthews" area of Louisville.
