Captaintreacherous To Hoosier Park

Hoosier Park is proud to announce that the defending Pacer of the Year, Captaintreacherous will make his Hoosier Park racing debut on Saturday, September 21 in a $50,000 three-year-old Invitational pace.

Hoosier Park’s Racing Secretary, Scott Peine, reached out to the connections of Captaintreacherous with hopes that they would be looking for a place to race before his previously announced engagements in Grand Circuit action in Lexington, KY. After discussions with the connections of the harness racing superstar, Captaintreacherous will set sail for Hoosier Park’s seven-eighths mile oval fresh off his victory in the $360,211 Cane Pace on September 2.

Boasting a career bankroll over $2.3 million, Captaintreacherous was victorious in the 2013 installment of the Meadowlands Pace and North American Cup. Trained by Tony Alagna, the sophomore pacer has won seven of eight starts this year and over $1.4 million in purse earnings for his connections at Captaintreacherous Racing.

Captaintreacherous, a son of 2008 Horse of the Year Somebeachsomewhere, is the first foal out of the lightly raced stakes-winning mare Worldly Treasure, who is a full sister to two-time Dan Patch Award-winner Worldly Beauty.

Last year, Captaintreacherous became the first two-year-old pacer in 25 years to be named Pacer of the Year. Captaintreacherous, who also was named harness racing’s best two-year-old male pacer, joins Camtastic and Niatross as the only two-year-olds presented with the Pacer of the Year honour. He was victorious in the marquee two-year-old events at both the Meadowlands in the Woodrow Wilson and Mohawk Racetrack in The Metro while compiling four wins of 1:50 or faster, the first freshman in harness racing history to accomplish that feat.

“We thought with the locality of Hoosier Park and trying to prepare for the Grand Circuit meet in Lexington, this race would be a perfect fit,” Alagna said of his trainee. “Of course we are looking to get a nice start in the horse before his races in Lexington, but I had a chance to talk with Tim (Tetrick) and being that we are both from the Midwest, we are very excited to come back and have the opportunity to showcase the horse there.”

Captaintreacherous will ship to Hoosier Park in the midst of its fastest season to date. Hoosier Park’s track surface continues to sizzle as sixteen track records have been re-established this season. Night Pro, an Indiana Sire Stakes champion, recently lowered the track record for three-year-old pacing colts to 1:49 in a leg of the $30,000 Indiana Gold Sire Stakes. Shark Gesture, the winner of the 2010 Dan Patch, still holds the overall track record, at 1:48.1.

The list of all-star horses that have made their way to Hoosier Park over the years includes Jennas Beach Boy, Maltese Artist and former seven-eighths mile world record holder, the late Pacific Fella.
