On Tuesday, August 26, eight drivers from across the country will convene at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at Charlottetown Driving Park to contest the National Driving Championship and compete for the ultimate prize: the honour of representing our country at the 2015 World Driving Championship in Australia.

To give our readers some insight into how the drivers prep and feel before this major event, our NDC drivers will be providing some blog-style entries that will appear on the Standardbred Canada website each day. Drivers will provide their perspective on the NDC, the draft and other aspects of the event.

Entries will appear here each day, starting Thursday, August 21. The participating drivers are Brandon Campbell, Jim Marino, Jody Jamieson, Billy Davis Jr., Guy Gagnon, Sylvain LaCaille, Marc Campbell and Ryan Ellis. Stay tuned to read what our drivers have to say!

NDC Offers Lots for Fans

In addition to a great night of competitive racing featuring the National Driving Championship and the inaugural edition of the Founders Cup for older pacers, NDC night at Red Shores Racetrack & Casino at CDP offers lots for racing fans.

The night kicks off with a “Meet & Greet” with the NDC drivers from 6 to 6:45 p.m. in the main lobby. The first 500 fans will receive a beautiful glossy poster that they can have autographed. Bring your smartphone or camera and take your photo with your favourite driver.

Enter the contest to pick the winner of the NDC. You’ll have a chance to win a great I Love Canadian Harness Racing Fan Club prize pack.

The Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame will have a display set up on site and are featuring a raffle on a beautifully framed and matted print of Somebeachsomewhere.

Winners of the 2014 Atlantic Bursary Program will be recognized and presented with their cheques, trackside, following the 5th race.

If you can’t make it to the NDC, take part in the ILCHR Fan Club’s Pick 8 Online Handicapping Challenge. The contest opens on Sunday, August 24 and the winner will receive a $50 gift card at their favourite Canadian racetrack, $50 in Fan Club swag, and an autographed photo of the winning driver of the National Driving Championship.

Just a reminder for those who can’t make it to Red Shores, that you can wager through HPI or at any of the racetracks in the Maritimes.
