Arrangements For Bob Steele

Arrangements have been announced for Robert S. 'Bob' Steele, 89, of Grove City, Ohio, who passed

away July 5, 2009, at Riverside Methodist Hospital.

Friends may visit on Wednesday, July 8, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Grove City United Methodist Church where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 9.

Steele served 40 years as general manager at Scioto Downs and 50 years as presiding judge at the Delaware, Ohio County Fair. He was a member of the Ohio Harness Horsemen's Association and the U.S. Trotting Association. He was also inducted into the Ohio Harness Racing Hall of Fame in 1995 and was enshrined in the Ohio State Fair Hall of Fame.

Steele served in the U.S. Navy from 1944-46. He also served 56 years as a deputy sheriff in Franklin County Ohio and was recognized on June 23, 2009 by the National Sheriff's Association as the oldest active special deputy in the United States.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy; children Dennis, Carole (Terry) Howison and Karen Calentine; and sister Caroline Burton; eight grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.
