LandMark Racing Stables has announced that the twelfth iteration of its popular fractional ownership group is in the process of being assembled.

The LandMark 12 Racing Stable will provide a unique opportunity for fans of harness racing to participate in the fractional ownership of several horses for a modest investment (the purchase of multiple shares is also permitted). LandMark only buys yearlings, so there will be an eight to nine-month training period as they develop into racehorses.

All yearlings purchased by LandMark 12 Stable will be selected, trained and raced by award-winning Ontario-based trainer Mark Steacy. The stable will be administered by Howard Pearce and Mike Steacy (Mark’s brother).

Mark will endeavour to purchase several Ontario-sired yearlings with the goal of participating in the lucrative Ontario Sires Stakes program. The number of yearlings purchased and the percentage of each yearling to be owned by LandMark will depend on the total number of shares sold and the sale price of the yearlings.

“LandMark has been a pleasure to run,” Pearce has told Trot Insider. “Many friendships have resulted from the myriad of people that have joined the various groups over the years, and there is a lot of interest and email and Facebook banter when the horses start racing.”

Pearce went on to say, “Many people who get involved in ownership for the first time through LandMark also buy pieces of yearlings directly with Mark, and recently there is more interest in sale catalogues and attending the sales in Lexington, London and Harrisburg.”

LandMark boasts members from five provinces (Ontario, Quebec New Brunswick, B.C., Alberta) and five states (Vermont, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, New Jersey). This year LandMark is hoping to buy more yearlings than ever – maybe five to seven – depending on the number of shares.

Shareholders must hold a valid Standardbred Canada membership, an AGCO Owners licence and sign a LandMark shareholders agreement. If you are a new shareholder, Landmark officials can assist you through the membership and licencing process.
