After a delayed start to the stake season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the best two and three-year-old trotters and pacers from across the Maritimes will be featured next week at Red Shores Summerside as part of harness racing action during Governor's Plate Week.

A full slate of Atlantic Sires Stakes events will take place throughout the week, beginning with the two and three-year-old trotters on Tuesday evening. Two $8,140 divisions of the Atlantic Sires Stakes - Meridian Farms/Prince Edward Island Harness Racing Industry Association three-year-old trot have been drawn along with a single $15,380 division of the Atlantic Sires Stakes - Meridian Farms/Prince Edward Island Harness Racing Industry Association two-year-old trot. First race post time on Tuesday is 6:30 p.m.

Atlantic Sires Stakes racing action will continue on Wednesday evening when the two-year-old pacing fillies meet for some friendly competition and the two year-old pacing colts will have their time to shine on Thursday.

Atlantic Sires Stakes racing action will wind up at Red Shores Summerside on Friday and Saturday with the three-year-old pacing fillies and colts.

Points earned in each Atlantic Sires Stakes trotting event and 'A' division pacing event go towards earning a spot in the season-ending Atlantic Breeders Crown Championships, slated for October 10 & 11, 2020.

Participants are reminded to follow the COVID-19 protocols when racing. Race day protocols can be found on the hosting tracks' websites and social media pages. Those feeling unwell should not attend these events.

In addition, horsepeople are reminded to allow sufficient time for travel crossing provincial borders as documentation of residency required at the check points. Please ensure that the required documentation to enter the provinces is present.
