Atlantic Mares Set To Tussle Again

The connections of 12 distaffers have entered their charges to contest the second leg of the Atlantic Aged Mares Pacing Series. A pair of $3,315, six-horse preliminary divisions has been drawn and will be part of a stakes-filled card of racing this Saturday (July 25) at Truro Raceway.

The first of the divisions will face the gate for Race 4 on the 11-dash program. The Post 1 starter in the field, For All We Know, has been pegged as the 5-2 morning line favourite for trainer Jackie Matheson and driver Gilles Barrieau. The eight-year-old daughter of Rocknroll Hanover has won 24 career races, but she will be looking for her first win of the season on Saturday, as she is winless thus far in 2015 after six starts.

The morning line oddsmaker has come up with a tight line for the six-horse dash, as the second early choice, Brodys Leona (PP6, C. MacPherson), has been pegged at 3-1, and the third choice, Stayoutofmyaffair, has been assessed at 7-2. The longest shot on the morning line is Romance In Camelot, at 5-1 while Bettim Jenny (PP3, J. Lilley, 9-2) and Dirt Track Momma (PP5, Ma. Campbell, 4-1) round out the field.

A field of six is also set to contest the second division, which will face the starter for Race 6. Ramblinglily has been named the 5-2 morning line favourite off of her stellar 2015 resume. From five starts thus far this season, trainer Allan Jones’ homebred has won four times and finished second once (by a head on July 18 at Summerside Raceway in the Governor’s Plate Open Mares final). The five-year-old daughter of Articulator has won 26 of her 48 overall starts and has banked over $103,000 in purses during the course of her career. Jones owns the mare with fellow breeder Normand Leger. She will start from Post 3. Marc Campbell has been listed to be in the race bike.

General Luckypercy (PP4, G. Barrieau) has been installed as the second morning line choice at odds of 3-1. The longest shot on the morning line is the scheduled Post 1 starter, Fleurje, who is trained by Nick Oakes and is coming into the tussle off of an open-length romp over conditioned foes at Summerside Raceway on July 17. Fleurje has been listed at 5-1 on the morning line. Others set to compete include Bunny Mach (PP2, TBA, 4-1), Best Risque (PP5, C. MacDonald, 7-2) and Mean Pauline (PP6, T. Trites, 9-2).

The Atlantic Aged Mares Pacing Series – which is co-sponsored by Standardbred Canada, Red Shores and participating host tracks – is restricted to aged pacing mares that are Canadian sired and/or 100 per cent Canadian owned.
