John ‘Jack’ Bertrand Passes

Horseman John C. ‘Jack’ Bertrand, 82, passed away on July 15 at the Brockton VA Medical Center.

He was the son of the late Albert Joseph and Ethel Mary (Ramsden) Bertrand and was born in Newton, Mass., on Jan. 16, 1932.

Bertrand proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He and his late wife, Jeannette, were married in Colorado on June 16, 1951. He had been a resident of Foxboro for the past 43 years.

He was a retired member of the Teamsters Union where he was a sales representative and driver for Wonder Bread in Framingham.

A 40-plus-year member of the USTA, Mr. Bertrand and his wife trained harness horses at their Walkover Farm in Foxboro for many years. They raced at numerous tracks throughout the Northeast.

He was the husband of the late Jeannette Marie (LeBlanc) Bertrand; the loving father of Debra J.; devoted grandfather of Kevin (Emily) Tomes and Matthew Tomes; great-grandfather of Anthony Tomes, Danielle Tomes and Carter Tomes; and brother of Ethel Beecher.
