Among its 680 clients, TheStable.ca has three esteemed NHL alumni: Eddie Olczyk who joined the fractional horse racing ownership stable earlier this year, and Rick Vaive and Doug Gilmour who joined in 2018.

Gilmour doubled-down on his fractional ownership play after a three-length win by rookie pacing filly Capistrano in Ontario Sires Stakes action on July 9 at Woodbine Mohawk Park. Phil Hudon piloted the daughter of Warrawee Needy in her career debut in 1:54.2 for trainer Harry Poulton.

Shortly thereafter, Gilmour added five one-percent shares of the filly to his roster.

Capistrano will be shooting for her second consecutive win for the NHL Hall of Famer and 11 fellow owners on Thursday (July 18) when she starts from the rail in the first Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots division at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

“The essential happiness of being amongst the horses is that it brings us in contact with the rare and unique elements of grace, beauty, spirit and freedom,” said Gilmour.

While Gilmour will be in Sault Ste Marie, Ont. for a speaking engagement during Capistrano’s second start, he’ll be watching online and is looking forward to attending future starts in-person later this summer.

“It’s an opportunity to have a fun and action-packed evening and to be able to do that with our family and friends at the same time,” he said.

TheStable.ca is horse racing’s fastest-growing fractional ownership outfit and the largest harness racing stable in Canada with clients across 11 countries currently sharing ownership in 100 horses. The award-winning operation is based in Guelph, Ont. and offers the opportunity for clients to own as little as one percent of a racehorse.
