Horsepeople and fans attending live racing on Friday night at Mohawk Racetrack are encouraged to join employees and wear red in support of the St. Mary’s General Hospital Foundation’s Red Day.

Red Day Friday is being supported by Mohawk in an effort to raise awareness for women’s heart disease.

Cardiac disease is the leading cause of death among Canadian women, claiming the lives of 23,000 women a year. Part of the Red Day initiative is to encourage individuals to make changes in their every day lives that will improve their heart health.

Those participating in Red Day are encouraged to post their image on social media along with a supportive heart message and the hashtag #RedDayFriday.

Red Day will be taking place all across the Mohawk area and the Waterloo Region, including at the Manulife Classic LPGA event at nearby Whistle Bear Golf Club in Cambridge.

Several drivers will be wearing red armbands during racing action Friday in support of Red Day, while the St. Mary’s General Hospital Foundation will be making a winner’s circle presentation.
