William Jacobs Passes

William E. Jacobs of Freehold, NJ, passed away on Monday, June 19 at The Manor, Freehold Township. He was 88.

Born in Kearny and a lifelong Freehold resident, Jacobs was a 1947 graduate of Freehold High School. He played on the Gulistan baseball and basketball teams in Freehold.

Jacobs was a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Freehold, from which he retired. A USTA member, he raced and trained Standardbreds on the east coast for more than 50 years.

His wife, Ann V. Jacobs, passed away in 1993. He was also predeceased by a grandchild and a great-grandchild.

Surviving are two sons, William E. Jacobs Jr. and Donald M. (Carol) Jacobs; daughters Valerie (Chuck) Johnson, Lynn (Buzz) Wagner, Cynthia (Michael) Wood, Eileen (Richard) McGackin, and Elaine (Michael) Kiernan; 17 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Viewing will be held Thursday (June 22) from 4-8 p.m. at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center St., Freehold, N.J. Funeral services will be held Friday (June 23) at 10 a.m. at the same facility, followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery in Freehold.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
