Truro Raceway’s Meet Overview

Who is ready for some harness racing excitement?

Truro Raceway is celebrating its grand re-opening this Sunday (May 25) with a 1:30 p.m. first-race post time. Aside from an action-packed, 12-race card featuring top drivers Ryan Ellis, Darren Crowe and Paul Langille, the volunteers at Truro Raceway are putting together something special for fans in attendance.

There is a grand prize draw for a barbeque (a $450 value), courtesy of Harris Home Hardware. To win, all fans need to do is write their names on the back of any un-cashable ticket from that day to enter. Aside from the barbeque grand prize, there are a lot more prizes to be won: there are 10 propane tanks up for grabs (courtesy Wilson’s Fuels), ladies’ freshwater pearl earrings, mini binoculars and tool kits, (all courtesy of Pye Chevrolet).

Even if your horse doesn’t win, Truro Raceway is finding ways to continue the winning. There will be live music in front of the grandstand and local journalist Matt Veno will be the emcee. Kids will be able to decorate horseshoes, and colouring books will also be handed out.

If you’re new to racing, be sure to get your complimentary program and betting voucher!

The Pick 5 wager will have a minimum $500 pool on May 25, and for one race, eight lucky patrons will be picked for the ‘Own a Horse for a Race’ contest. If the lucky patron’s horse comes in first, second or third, that winning patron will receive a betting voucher and all participants are invited down to the Winner’s Circle after the race for the win photo.

What’s amazing is all of this is happening thanks to local residents who are volunteering their time ensuring a staple of the Nova Scotia community thrives for future generations.

Truro Raceway is bringing back live racing Friday nights under the lights with first-race post time at 6 p.m. The lights get turned on for the first time on Friday, June 6 with live music between races where fans can enjoy a cold one at the beer garden. The beer garden will offer wagering for fans, and fans will be able to cheer on their horses up close to the action. The thundering hooves, people cheering and screaming, the excitement is already brewing!

The Friday, June 6 race card will also feature a Maritimes faceoff between the drivers of Truro Raceway and the drivers of Red Shores Charlottetown. The top two drivers and two amateur drivers from each colony will square off over four races that evening.

On Friday, June 20, the top driver challenge will conclude with the second and final leg of the series. On this night, after four more races, the winning driver will be celebrated and the broadcast team from ‘Race Night Live’ Red Shores Charlottetown will be broadcasting live.

The driver’s challenge is proudly sponsored by Wayne’s Saddlery and D.R. Polley Auto Sales.

Be sure to grab some suds at the beer garden and cheer your favourite driver on as they compete for the title. There will be live music on June 20 between races to keep the Raceway rockin’! Both Friday race cards will offer a free program and betting voucher to new fans, giving fans a chance to win for free.

Truro Raceway is ideal if you are getting together with friends and families. Celebrate birthdays, anniversaries and bring the wedding party for a fun night out.

Truro Raceway is excited to host corporate groups and non-profit groups as well.

All group bookings will include a fun night of racing which includes programs, reserved seating, a chance to win betting vouchers in the ‘Own a Horse for a Race’ contest, behind-the-scenes tours with the opportunity to meet drivers, trainers and their horses.

Thanks to all the volunteers who work tirelessly to keep Truro Raceway rockin’ and inviting!
