The countdown to the Colt Stakes Anniversary is on. Just four more days until the first event – the Anniversary Dinner on Friday, May 15th in Summerside

. Tickets are on sale from Association directors and at the Harness Racing PEI office for $20. Tickets must be picked up by Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.

The evening features the launch of the Colt Stakes history book “Raise A Colt”, a compilation of race results, anecdotes and photographic records of horses, events and individuals that make up the 75 years of Colt Stakes action on Prince Edward Island. The first edition copies total just 500 and anyone buying one of them will get a special bonus – a chance to win a trip to Lexington for the 2009 Kentucky Futurity and the Lexington Select Yearling Sale. The prize will go to the winner of a “Colt Stakes Trivia” contest based on the contents of the book. Contest eliminations will be held during Old Home Week with ten finalists squaring off at the Presidents Brunch on September 20th in conjunction with the 2009 edition of the PEI Colt Stakes.

Another feature on the opening night agenda is a stallion fee silent auction. Buyers will have sixteen stallions to choose from in the fundraiser that will support the Goodwill Racing Series at the matinee tracks this summer as well as the harness racing summer camps for kids that are part of the Matinee Track Development Program operated by the PEI Harness Racing Industry Association. Door prizes and Colt Stakes pins and jackets will also be available as well as a display of Colt Stakes memorabilia.

History buffs will be entertained after the dinner by a round table discussion among several of the Association’s Past Presidents, refereed by former broadcaster Roger Younker. The tall tales about some of the characters in the book will be sure to bring back memories for the many harness racing fans expected to attend.
