Illa Rumpel Passes

Trot Insider has learned that standardbred owner Illa Rumpel passed away on Friday, April 29 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease at the Signal Hill Care Centre in Calgary, Alta. She was 83

.

Illa developed a love for standardbred horses and harness racing many years ago with husband Gordon Rumpel. Together, they shared in ownership of many racehorses including Hall of Fame pacers On The Road Again and Matts Scooter.

“Illa was very proud of the horses she was involved with and they were well trophied,” said Gord, who named the award-winning Alberta sired filly A Special Lady after his wife.

In addition to her loving and caring husband of 59 years, Illa leaves behind her son Glen (Erin); grandchildren Sara (Kyle), Matthew, Lucas and her great-grandson Henry. She also leaves two sisters Phyl (Jim) and Myrt. Illa was predeceased by her son Jimmy; her parents William and Frances; sister Joyce (Gus); brother Glen (Delores); brother-in-law Ken; niece Debbie and nephew Murray.

Illa was a friend to all who met her and she will be dearly missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Calgary Golf and Country Club (one and a half blocks west of Elbow Drive on 50th Avenue SW) on Friday, May 6, 2011 at 1 p.m.
