Longtime harness racing industry participant David Ahern of Omemee, Ont. passed away on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at the age of 77.

Dave worked at General Electric for 38 years, had a strong faith and was a long-standing member of the Cathedral of Saint Peter-In- Chains. The family fondly recalls when he was the trainer for his kid’s teams in many minor sports in Omemee. Dave was a person with a big heart and soul, where family meant everything to him.

His love of horses began by showing and racing Quarter horses with his brother which then lead to racing Standardbred horses with his sons. He had a few horses that were the apple of his eye, the first one was Armbro Trusting and more recently DG Set For Life.

Beloved and devoted Husband of Betty Ann Ahern (nee Cavanagh) for 56 years. Loving and cherished Father of Kim Ahern (Gerry Mason), Debbie Wainman (Mark), David Ahern (Debbie), and Greg Ahern (Nicole). Very proud and cherished Papa of Sarah (Mike), Braeden, Amanda (Garner), Zack (Carly), Josh, Nicholas, Taylor, Payton and Tyson. Loving and caring brother of Mary Lou Clark (Lew predeceased) Brian Ahern (Karen) and brother-in-law to Ron Cavanagh (Barb). Dave will be sadly missed by his many cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Dr. Stoker for the care he provided for Dave over the years. Due to COVID-19 restrictions there will be a Private Funeral Mass held at the Cathedral of St. Peter-In-Chains. Interment St. Peter’s Cemetery. In memory of Dave and in lieu of flowers, donations to the SickKids Foundation or the Ontario Standardbred Adoption Society would be appreciated by the family and can be made through the Highland Park Funeral Centre.
