Muriel Thomas Passes

Muriel M. Thomas, former manager of the horseman's canteen, "The Cookhouse," at Sackville Downs, passed away on Friday, April 17 at the age of 92 in Gables Lodge, Amherst, N.S.

Born in Springhill, she was a daughter of the late Amos and Reta (MacDonald) Porter. She is survived by daughters, Connie Lowther and Barbara Thomas, both of Springhill; sons, Jack, Halifax; Brian, Amherst; Michael, Halifax; brother, Arthur, Alberta; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by daughter, Karen Stewart; sisters, Etta O’Donnell and Lorraine Porter; brothers, Leonard, William, and Donald.

There will be a time of visiting from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. followed immediately by a funeral service at 3 p.m. on Monday, April 20 in MacDiarmid’s Funeral Home, 5075 Main Street, Oxford (902-447-2930), with Rev.
