Meadowlands Spring Sale Cancelled

The Meadowlands Spring Mixed Sale, originally slated for April 29, has been cancelled for this year due to lack of entries, according to sale manager David Reid.

“Unfortunately, we just didn’t have enough horses, and I didn’t think it was in the best interests of buyers and sellers to put on a sale without a big enough catalogue,” Reid said.

“We brought the Spring Mixed Sale back after a 12-year hiatus, and had a very successful four-year run with it. I believe it’s been a needed marketplace for this time of the year, but this year, it’s unfortunate that it’s just not feasible.”

Tattersalls Sales Company’s focus now turns to its traditional Summer Mixed Sale, to be held on Meadowlands Pace weekend, Sunday, July 15.

“We’re now looking to build on the momentum of the Summer Mixed, with both the two-year-old market and racehorses of all ages,” Reid said.

Last year’s Summer Mixed Sale was up an incredible 52.8 per cent in average from the previous year and was led by a trio of $100,000-plus horses. Those included sale topper In Secret ($140,000), who went on to win four straight Open Handicap Trots at Yonkers after his sale.
