Kawartha Downs is sad to announce the passing of one of the track’s greatest fans, and the matriarch of one of the track’s founding families, Marg Gassien.

Marg passed away on February 10 and a funeral was held several days later. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul Gassien, and her son, Gary. She is survived by her children, Reg Gassien (Sheila), Elaine Kimble (Brad), Dan Gassien (Stacey) and Steve Gassien (Beth); her grandchildren, Kara, Jenna (Chris), Ashley, Connor, Daniele, Channing, Alex, Max and Aaron; and her great grandchildren, Lilah and Paige.

Paul, who loved horses and became involved with Standardbreds in the early 1960s, was a fixture at KD for many years along with Marg, and their family joined them in their appreciation to the sport. Son Reg has been one of Kawartha Downs’ leading drivers for many years and spent some time as a top driver on the country’s leading Standardbred circuit. He’s a member of the Lindsay and District Sports’ Hall of Fame.

The family has requested that donations be made to the Ontario Standardbred Adoption Society (OSAS.ca) or the Kawartha Lakes Alzheimer Society.

Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the family and friends of Marg Gasien.
