Appeal Tribunal Seeks Members

The Honourable Fred Lindsay, solicitor general and minister of Public Security, is seeking applications from individuals interested in serving as chair or as a member

of the Horse Racing Appeal Tribunal.

Established by the Horse Racing Alberta Act, the Appeal Tribunal is an independent committee that hears appeals on rulings made by horse racing officials. The Appeals Tribunal consists of three members with one member designated as chair. Applicants should have a background in board or committee governance and processes and an understanding of administrative law as well as some knowledge of the Alberta horse racing industry and the rules of racing. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, sound decision making abilities and a reputation for demonstrating fairness and integrity are essential. Collaboration and mediation skills are also required.

A member is appointed for a term of up to three years and may be re-appointed for one further term. On average, five hearings per year are required. A per diem rate and travel expenses are paid. Those interested must be free of potential conflict of interest.
