It has been reported that Waco Hanover, the elderly Standardbred that has received mainstream media attention due to his long life, has passed away at the age of 42.

News of ‘Waco’s passing has come courtesy of CBS Sunday Morning. The outlet also profiled the long-living son of Tar Heel back in 2017. Waco passed away on Saturday, February 9.

The inspiring story of the former racehorse was covered in ‘Standardbred Old Friends’ a few years back. To read an excerpt of the Waco Hanover section of the book, click here.

The 2017 CBS Sunday Morning piece on Waco also explored the relationship that the gelding had with his caretaker, Donnie MacAdams. The two forged an important bond, one that was worthy of coverage by the mainstream press.

“I just talked to him one day for about a half an hour,” MacAdams said at the time,” and got him to accept the fact that I ain’t goin’ anywhere, I’m your buddy. It’s been going on now for eight years.”
