A Bettors Delight At The Meadowlands

Saturday's Meadowlands card could aptly be described as a bettor's delight. Thirteen races, heavy with large and competitive fields, guaranteed horizontal wagers and a bonanza of nearly $100,000 in the last race Super Hi-5 Jackpot carry-over pool.

The night's feature race is the seventh where seven pacers will vie for the lion's share of a $20,000 purse. There has been a different winner every week in this class and tonight's race includes the winners of the past three editions.

Western Joe took the crown on January 20 with a convincing front-end 1:50.4 tour de force, then skipped a week to return with a good but unrewarded sixth-place effort in last week's race. Pat Berry has picked up the drive on the classy four-year-old for trainer Chris Choate and owner Anthony Ruggeri.

Endeavor seems to have a passion for the mile track and has blossomed since trainer-driver Pat Lachance made the move from the half-miler late last year for owner Helene Fillion. He's now won half of his six Meadowlands starts including a 1:50.2 score in the class two back.

Starznheaven was the longshot winner when Yannick Gingras put up an amazing steer to get him across for trainer Ron Burke at a $47.80 mutuel in last week's open. He's back with a chance from a mid-pack post but loses Yannick and picks up Anthony Napolitano (fresh off his five-win performance on Friday) for owners Burke Racing, Weaver Bruscemi, Emond and Karr.

Free program pages for the Late Pick 4 and last race Super Hi-5 Jackpot carryover ($96,484) may be downloaded from the Meadowlands' website. The Valentine buffet continues in Pink with champagne and roses for the girls. First race post time is 6:35 p.m.
