Terry Newman Passes

Terry Newman of Gowanstown, Ont. passed away on Tuesday, November 6 after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 67.

Husband of Kathy (Yungblut) Newman, and father of Amy Newman. Brother of Byrnel and Marilyn Newman of Harriston, Burt Newman and Kelly McAndrew of Calgary, and Murray and Debbie Newman of Kitchener.

Brother-in-law of Carol and Paul Long of Gowanstown, Don and Nancy Yungblut of Port Elgin, Susan and Al Weyers of Atwood, and Patti and Dave Rogerson of Alma.

Remembered by his many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Predeceased by parents Harold and Doris (Burt) Newman.

Terry got his start in the racehorse business with a trotter named Chancellor Atom trained by Ken Hopkins. Later, Vivian Creighton took him under her wings and taught him the training and care of a racehorse. Some of Newman's notable performers included Volga GG, Volga Speed, Billy J Rip, Loan Shark and Dyke Doo Little.

In addition to his harness racing background, Terry had a very successful Jr. A hockey career with the Hamilton Red Wings, Kitchener Rangers and Kenora Muskies. He was also an avid golfer.

Cremation has taken place and there will be visitation at the Hardy-Lee Funeral Home in Harriston on Friday, November 9 from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. The Funeral service will be held at Knox-Calvin Presbyterian Church in Harriston on Saturday, November 10 at 11 am. Interment in St Paul's Lutheran Cemetary, Wallace Twp. Memorial donations to the Listowel Hospital Foundation (Palliative Care) or St. Paul's Lutheran Church would be appreciated.
