‘The Stable’ Christmas Open House Info

Published: November 6, 2017 12:09 pm EST

She wants a pony for Christmas, but you can buy a share of a racehorse the entire family will enjoy, for a fraction of the price.

That’s the message of the season from TheStable.ca, which will host a public Open House & Horse Sale on Sunday, November 26 at the Tomiko Training Centre (near Puslinch, Ont.) from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The event is free, but an RSVP is required and a non-perishable food item for the Guelph Food Bank is appreciated. All ages are welcome. Complimentary hot drinks and snacks will be available.

TheStable.ca is a racehorse ownership venture launched in 2015 by Anthony and Amy MacDonald. The Guelph couple own and train several Standardbred racehorses near Mohawk Racetrack. Anthony is also a prominent racehorse driver and a well-known harness racing industry advocate.

The MacDonalds built their 'fractional ownership' stable as a bridge — a way to welcome non-horse-people to racehorse ownership with a very modest investment (as low as $100), low-risk, and completely accessible and transparent operations.

There are currently 98 horses and 357 active racehorse owners from nine countries in The Stable.

During the open house, guests are invited to meet the horses and chat with the MacDonalds and staff, and meet other racehorse owners in The Stable and industry professionals.

A video broadcast, featuring a drone camera over the racetrack, will kick off at 10:00 a.m. when 50 horses will train on the racetrack in sets of five. Some of North America’s top racehorse drivers will steer the young colts and fillies, while pro TV commentators preview the horses’ pedigrees and conduct interviews.

The broadcast will be streamed via ‘Facebook Live’ on TheStable.ca Facebook page from10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

A catalogue will be available on TheStable.ca website on November 24, detailing all horses for which shares are available for purchase. The catalogue will include a schedule of when each horse will be showcased on the broadcast during the Open House.

Complete event details and the RSVP form are available here.
