Harness The Hope In London

Published: October 25, 2016 11:17 pm EDT

The Raceway at Western Fair District will host the 11th annual Harness the Hope Night this Friday night with proceeds going to benefit the Breast Cancer Society of Canada.

Harness The Hope has become a staple at The Raceway and one of the major events that kicks off each racing season in London. It is the brainchild of Doreen Dustin, wife of local horseman Greg Dustin, who herself was diagnosed with breast cancer on October 24, 2005.

"This is certainly very special to me and it's hard to believe that it's been eleven years," she explained. "The reason we've continued this each year is because of the tremendous support we've received from the industry. And, every year we have women in our community who are diagnosed and it keeps reminding us of the importance of this cause."

The Raceway will be decked out in pink once again this Friday with festivities beginning at 6:00 p.m. Some of the events include the launch of the new “Winning Key Contest” in which keys can be purchased for $20 each and after Race 6 everyone will be able to try their key in 3 locked boxes to unlock a grand prize. Grand Prizes include; an Apple iPad Air 2 32GB sponsored by M.A. Poels Trucking, a Panasonic SC-UA7 Bluetooth Speaker System sponsored by Strathroy Audio Video and a Full Day Golf & Dinner Package for four sponsored by Caradoc Sands Golf Club.

Additional fundraising efforts include a 50/50 draw, silent auction and penny auctions.

Fans who wear pink to the track can fill out a ballot for mystery prize giveaway during the night. All patrons, sponsors, donors & volunteers are invited to join in trackside after Race 3 for a commemorative event photo of the “Harness the Hope” winning blanket presentation.

Post time is 7:05 p.m. and there is still limited seating available at the Top of the Fair Restaurant. A portion of each meal sold that night will go towards the fundraising efforts. To book your table, call (519)-438-7203 (ext. 252) or email [email protected].

Donations for this year's Harness the Hope Night can be made through the Breast Cancer Society of Canada at www.bcsc.ca or can be made by cash or cheque on Friday night at The Raceway.
