Buddy Campbell On Tap At Red Shores

Three-year-old trotters will do battle Saturday at Red Shores’ Charlottetown Driving Park in the final of the Buddy Campbell Memorial.

First-race post time for the 13-dash card is 6 p.m.

The $6,800 Maritime Breeders final will go postward for Race 6. Dusty Lane Galaxy is the morning line favourite for trainer-driver Gary Chappell and owners Peter Buchanan of North Wiltshire and the Estate of George Boswall. The PJs Nabby gelding has Post 7 after a 2:01 victory is his elimination last Saturday. Incredibility won the other elimination in 2:03.3 and has drawn the rail for driver Marc Campbell, trainer Earl Watts and owners Wade Peconi of Stanchel and Windemere Farms of Hampshire. Other entries include BJ Comance (to be driven by Clare MacDonald), Glencove Yoshi (Mike Stevenson), Southfield Shadow (Terry Gallant), Saulsbrook Pippa (Corey MacPherson), Phantom Beau (Kenny Arsenault) and JK Hustler (Walter Cheverie).

A field of high-class pacers will line up for the $2,550 twelfth race with All Turain looking to repeat after a 1:55.2 win last week for driver Stevenson, trainer Wade Sorrie and owners Lee Hicken of Charlottetown and Perry Burke of Quebec. The five-year-old son of Tell All has drawn Post 6 and will compete against seven rivals. Top threats are Cabo Pan Lucas (Vincent Poulton) with the rail and Astor (Jason Hughes) with Post 5. Also in the field is Eagle Jolt (Campbell), Narragansett (Mark Bradley), Touch Of Lightning (Earl Smith) and Cheyenne Ford (Arsenault).

The $1,850 Open Trot (Race 4) is Zip The Lip’s race to lose after a 1:59 track record victory Sunday at Red Shores’ Summerside Raceway, which was his fifth win in a row. Majian Dillon (Jim Ripley) and Pleasure Girls (Cheverie) will try to make it interesting from Post 3 and 5, respectively, in the seven-horse field.

Rash B Havior headlines the Race 8 feature Sunday afternoon at Red Shores’ Summerside.

The first of afternoon’s 13 races will get underway at 1 p.m.

Walter Cheverie will drive the four-year-old son of Lis Mara in the $1,900 event for owner-trainer Mike Peters of Emyvale, who is riding a three-race win streak, including a 1:56.3 victory in last Sunday’s Summerside feature.

The field of five also includes Bad Date (Jason Hughes), Carrera Angel (Rocky Schurman), Carnivore (Marvyn Webster) and Machinthesand (Ken Murphy).

The afternoon trot class will line up for Race 4, the Ralph and Edythe Cole Memorial, which carries a purse of $1,350. Atlantic Breeders Crown champion Seanchai is the early favourite from Post 5 for driver Hughes and owner Buntainwood Farm of Brackley Beach. The three-year-old son of Northern Bailey has Post 5 in the seven-horse field. The sophomore will face challenges from Majian Chester (Jim Ripley) and Saulsbrook Balance (Willie Murphy).

Race 13 is the Ivan and Isabelle Cameron Memorial. Eight pacers will compete for a $1,400 purse. Ima Fancy King is the early favourite from Post 3 for driver Terry Gallant and owner-trainer Jansen Sweet of O’Leary. The classifier has Blue Meadow Willie (Cheverie) and Windemere Eric (Chappell) as the next choices.
