On Saturday night, 2019 O'Brien Award winner Century Farroh will compete in an Invitational race at Hoosier Park, but the four-year-old pacer will do so racing on Lasix for the first time.

The race will be Century Farroh’s 40th career start. It will also serve as a prep for the $500,000 Breeders Crown Open Pace on Saturday, Oct. 31. With only 10 entered, no elims were needed.

On Oct. 11 at The Red Mile, the son of Mach Three - Beachy Girl was found to have bled. He finished a distant tenth in the $150,000 Allerage Open Pace after a failed first-over bid against eventual race winner Bettors Wish. That rival who will start outside of Century Farroh in the Invitational this Saturday.

“Yes, he bled so we’re expecting the Lasix will do the job. It works in 75 percent of the cases,” said Dr. Ian Moore from his training base at Classy Lane Training Centre in Ontario. “He trained Tuesday and scoped clean afterwards.”

Century Farroh has had a demanding season, but has managed to earn $381,000 for Ratchford Stables of Nova Scotia.

“I’m reasonably happy with his results,” said Dr. Moore. “This is always a very tough class and deep in talent — on a given week any number of horses can win.”

This will be the horse’s ninth start in the United States this season. Moore has not found it to be an easy task.

“Between the coronavirus and the commitments I have here at home, it is far more difficult than I’ve ever encountered. I’ve been racing in the U.S. for quite a number of years but this time is very different.”

A winner of $1.1 million in his career, Century Farroh has been the subject of some stud inquiries but no decision has yet been reached.

Despite the reluctance of some Canadians to travel to the U.S., Dr. Moore said that he plans on wintering in Florida, as he has done for several years, and expects to have 20 horses at Southern Oaks Training Center in central Florida.
