Eric McNutt Passes

Standardbred horseman Eric Charles McNutt passed away peacefully on Friday, October 17 at The Dorothy Ley Hospice.

Eric is survived by his sons Roger and Daniel (wife Monique) and sister Joan Alvarez, brothers Kenneth and Donald, former wife Marion Cooley and many nieces and nephews in Canada and the U.S.

Eric was born in Truro, Nova Scotia, one of 10 children, to Janie and Charles McNutt. He was predeceased by his brother, Lorne, and sisters Ella Mullan, Marie Jensen, Evelyn Brent, Gail Ross and Phyllis Hingley.

At an early age, Eric was a merchant seaman and travelled the world. In the early ‘50s he joined the Ironworkers Local 721 in Toronto where he worked on many new projects in Ontario. Eric was also involved with harness racing as a driver, trainer and owner.

Many thanks to the doctors, nurses, staff and volunteers at Trillium Health Centre Mississauga and The Dorothy Ley Hospice in Etobicoke. Cremation has taken place and there will be a private family gathering at a later date. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or The Dorothy Ley Hospice.
