More On Cancelled Truro Race Dates

Officials with Truro Raceway have provided an update on the seven cancelled race dates announced earlier this week.

The cancelled dates, all of which are Fridays, had been scheduled for November 8, 15, 22, 29 and December 6, 13 and 20.

"The Board of Directors and Management of Truro Raceway Limited have made a fiscally responsible decision to help ensure the 2020 season commences in a debt free position," said Truro's Kelly McEachen. "With the split from the Nova Scotia Exhibition in February 2018, Truro Raceway Limited incurred $372,000 in liabilities. After 18 months the TRL board is pleased to announce that the debt has been retired and paid in full.

"Patrons will still have the opportunity to attend simulcast racing at both Truro Raceway Lounge and Brewster’s Bar and Grill in Bedford."

The track is still scheduled to host programs of live racing on October 25 and November 1.

Very unfortunate for the horsepeople that they've lost 7 race dates.Which forces them to either transport for racing opportunities or wait 6 long months to race again. One can't help but think that this will impact the ability to fill a race card come April. So the track had the ability to pay off 372,000 in this time period would it have been unreasonable to hold the last 7 cards. Shouldn't be long next spring recouping the roughly 70,000 they would spend in purses, if they were able to pay off 372,000 since they took over. Track in a strong financial position with limited horses come spring can't possibly be a good thing. Strongly suspect this will motivate some people to contemplate selling their horses.
