John Dinning Passes

Published: January 29, 2015 03:44 pm EST

John Howard Dinning passed away early Thursday morning (January 29) after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

Dinning, who was an avid fan of hockey and a long-time trainer of Standardbred horses, will be particularly missed by the horse racing community in southwestern Ontario.

Some of his favourite horses, campaigned by him, were Andiamo Rob, Shesabeast and Hungry Howie. Most recently he was campaigning the pacing mare Whosurbeast.

After retiring from Ford, Dinning enjoyed spending his time with his horses and his friends in the industry. John, who acquired his love of horses from his father, has passed the horse-racing passion on to his son, Rob, an active trainer and driver.

John is survived by his wife, Debbie; son, Rob (Pricilla); two granddaughters, Taylor and Michelle; father, Howard; mother, Joan; and siblings, Barb, Janet and Andrea. He was predeceased by daughter, Michelle.

Visitation will take place at James H. Sutton Funeral home, located at 401 Sandwich Street South in Amherstburg, Ont., on Saturday, January 31 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-7:30 p.m. Service will be held following the Saturday evening visitation.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to either the Canadian Cancer Society or the Canadian Mental Health Association.

Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the family and friends of John Dinning.

Sad news, condolences to the family. I remember Bills Mate at Leamington campaigning for the Dinnings.
