Sock It Away Takes On Charlottetown

Published: January 21, 2022 10:13 am EST

Sock It Away has been exceptional during the winter meet and will look to keep the streak alive in the Saturday (Jan. 22) afternoon feature at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

The 12-dash presentation kicks off at 12:30 P.M. with no spectators allowed on the grounds and strict COVID-19 guidelines for all harness racing participants.

The $3,200 preferred pace will take to the track in Race 11. Sock It Away has been saddled with the outside Post 5 for driver Marc Campbell, trainer Kevin MacLean and owner Reg MacPherson of Stratford. The champion son of Pang Shui has won his last four starts in preferred company and will be looking for lifetime win 36 on Saturday. The Gilles Barrieau stable has a powerful duo entered in the class with The Rev leaving from Post 2 for driver Adam Merner fresh off a runner-up finish to Sock It Away. Barrieau will elect to drive Mc Pat from Post 3 as the Delmarvalous pacer makes the first start of his six-year-old season.

Completing the field are railsitter My Land (To be driven by Jason Hughes) and Mikey Camden (David Dowling) from Post 4.

Peter MacPhee likes the chances for a Sock It Away repeat in the Post Time Picks.

“That was some trip Sock It Away went last time storming home in an eye popping :27.2 and scoring in 1:57.3. He’s back in the same spot this week and with Campbell at the controls; be prepared for a Red Shores high five.”

Bludhaven makes his Island debut in Race 8 of the program with $1,700 at stake. Dowling nows trains and drives the five-year-old Rockin Image gelding for new owner Brittany Watts of Springvale. The pacer has two lifetime wins to his credit with his 1:56.2 record taken over Hoosier Park in Indiana.
