An O'Brien Award finalist this time one year ago, pacing colt Capt Midnight has been retired and will stand stud for the 2021 breeding season.

A $350,000 yearling, Capt Midnight (Captaintreacherous - It Was Fascination) rolled to six victories in 10 freshman outings, notching wins in the Nassagaweya, Champlain and International Stallion stakes while placing third in the Metro. He won twice in sub-1:50 fashion at two, capturing the final of the Dream Maker at Woodbine Mohawk Park in 1:49.4 and then pacing back to that mark at The Red Mile in the International Stallion.

Returning as a sophomore in 2020, he tangled with harness racing's best. His lifetime mark of 1:48.3 came once again at Mohawk, winning the Simcoe in stakes record time. He also paced sub-1:48 in three runner-up efforts, pacing in 1:49.4 or faster in 14 of 15 starts. He retires with $662,286 in earnings and a 8-5-2 summary from 25 lifetime starts.

At the time of his retirement, Capt Midnight was the second-richest son of Captaintreacherous. His dam, It Was Fascination, is the only pacing mare in history whose first two foals (Captain Trevor and Capt Midnight) are sub-1:50 record two-year-olds.

Capt Midnight will stand his first season at Premier Acres in Middlebury, Ind. alongside Odds On Equuleus, Pastor Stephen and former stablemate Pilot Discretion. His introductory stud fee is set at $4,000.
