Roger Hall Passes

Horseman Roger L. Hall, 73, of Utica, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, January 14 at his home.

He was born on July 17, 1944 in Mount Vernon, Ohio, the son of Leslie and Dorothy (Baldwin) Hall. He retired in 2012 after 37 years of employment with Owens Corning in Newark, Ohio.

Hall was the definition of a true gentleman. He was easy going and friendly to everyone he came across. He was a kind and caring man that was always looking out for the best interest of the people around him.

He was an avid horseman all of his adult life, raising, training, watching and supporting his nephews in the horse racing community. Some of the horses that he became fond of were Linda Kay, his first horse, Midnight Rendezvous and Great To See You.

He was a member of the United States Trotting Association, Ohio Harness Horsemen's Association and the Knox County Horsemen's Association.

He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years Luona (Ball); daughter, Katrina (Rodney) Slone; grandchildren, Bryan (Deana) Ramey and Tanner (Randi) Salyers; siblings, Brad (Linda), Larry (Lois), Judy (Wes) Hines, and Linda (Ron) Conkle; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call on Thursday (January 18) from 4-7 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, OH 43050 where a funeral service will be held on Friday (January 19) at 2 p.m. Pastor Marvin Haught will be officiating. Burial will follow in Brandon Cemetery.
