Turcotte Shines In Sudbury Features

Justin Turcotte had a productive night at the office scoring a training triple and a total of five driving wins including one in the Preferred Trot and another in a division of the second leg of the Harvest Series.

In the $12,500 Not Listed Preferred Trot, Turcotte guided Armbro Edward to victory in 2:01.2 by a head.

The four-year-old gelded son of Balanced Image cleared the lead after the :29.4 opening quarter ahead of True High Voltage (Scott Altizer). The post time favourite pulled away from the pack en route to the half in 1:00.4, but Terra Cotta Caddy (Allan Hohner) laid on the pressure through a 1:32 third quarter. With a :29.2 closing effort, the pacesetter dug in for the win. Terra Cotta Caddy and Speedy Desperado (Richard Turcotte) were right there for second and third.

Armbro Edward notched his 13th win and lifted his bankroll past the $100,000 mark for owner Norbert Haesen of Berlin, Germany.

Turcotte’s pupil, Gems Creek, also made his was to victory lane in a $7,500 Harvest Series division after making a three-wide winning decision at the half. The five-year-old son of Astreos clocked the mile in 1:59.4, taking his third straight win and 22nd of his career.

Shift Shadow (Jay Polifroni) finished two lengths back in second and Nocdown Jack (Pat Barr) rounded out the top three.

The winner of $127,083 is co-owned by Turcotte and Joe Ruppel of Listowel, Ont.

Turcotte scored another training win in Race 2 aboard longshot Finally Connected (2:01.4). The resident of Campbellville, Ontario also picked up two more driving wins in Race 4 with Roses Scholar (2:04.2) and in Race 12 with King Cujo (2:01.3).

The other Harvest Series division went to My Fine Ingot and driver Wayne MacLean.

The four-year-old son of Allamerican Ingot rallied from off the pace to win by a quarter-length in 2:01.1 for trainer Dion MacLean and owner Bonnie Goit of Waterford, Ont.

The winner of seven races and $40,761 in purse earnings prevailed ahead of the pacesetter, Cameltoe (Mario Rivest) and Momslilstagecoach (Paul MacLean).

In other action, Seawind Gambler rallied from last to first in the stretch to take the $12,500 Not Listed Preferred Pace for trainer/driver Allan Hohner.

The five-year-old son of Astreos sat in fifth as the favoured Thomson Seelster (Gerry Belanger) cleared the front just past the first quarter pole in :28.1. Seawind Gambler remained patient as the field rolled past the half in :57.2 and the third quarter station in 1:28.1. At the top of the stretch, the winner of 11 races and $160,804 in purses powered past the field for the win in 1:59.1 by one length.

Thomson Seelster stayed for second and Full Of Speed (David Dowling) nabbed the show spot.
