Rideau Hosts 6K Finals

The closing chapters of the 6K Series for trotters and pacers were written at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Sunday evening, with a trio of finals served up as part of its 15-race program.

Red Breast erupted for a 22-1 upset in the $9,800 final for female pacers. That's right, the five-year-old daughter of Mr Lavec paced from out of the clouds to win in a time of 1:58.2 for trainer/driver Jason Gilchrist.

Dr. Frederick Albert of Prescott, ON owns the double-gaited performer, who won be three-quarters of a length over pacesetter Landfairmaggiejane. Shark Tycoon rounded out the Triactor ticket.

It was the 13th lifetime win for Red Breast, who upped her pacing bankroll to $72,948. She only grabbed $2,509 in earnings during her brief career on the trot.

Pacopaco front-stepped his way to victory lane in the $9,650 final for the trotters. Ann Marie Turenne sent the gelding through panels of :29.4, 1:00 and 1:30.1 before cruising home in :31.1 en route to the 2:01.2 decision.

Paul Loranger Jr., who owns and trains the six-year-old son of Yankee Paco, watched the trotter win by a comfortable margin over pocket-sitter King Clifford. Fox Valley Isbi was third.

It was the fourth win of the season for Pacopaco, who was making the 99th start of his career. He has banked $114,027 to date.

Lancelot Hall, who was almost perfect in the preliminary legs of the series for the male pacers, was a popular winner in the $9,700 final for the duo of owner/trainer Stephane Larocque and driver John MacDonald.

The six-year-old son of Blissfull Hall enjoyed a pocket trip every step of the way before edging out of the garden spot and hauling down pacesetter Shahbash in the final strides. That rival finished second and Perfectcambination was third. The mile was clocked in 1:58.

It was the 11th win of the campaign for the gelding, who is now a 19-time winner in his career. The victory bumped his overall bankroll in excess of $90,000.
