Old Oaken Bucket To New Hampshire Boy

Owner-trainer-driver Ray Schnittker and New Hampshire Boy ($5.60) left from Post 3 in the $122,400 Old Oaken Bucket and put in a gate-to-wire mile with relative ease, taking the event in a time of 1:57.1.

The Credit Winner colt cut the fractions in :28.1, :57.4 and 1:27.1 before holding off the rest of the field of three-year-old trotting colts and geldings in the lane. The performance equaled the U.S. seasonal record for three-year-old trotting colts over a half-mile track.

"We had left from the three-hole and the other part of my entry [Bamboo Yankee, with George Brennan] had the rail, and that really helped," said Schnittker, who owns New Hampshire Boy along with Stephen Demeter and Herbert Burns.

Jimmy Shin (Mike Lachance) finished second and New Hampshire Boy's entrymate Bamboo Yankee was third. There were five different horses that made breaks in the race.

The winner's share of the $122,400 purse sent New Hampshire Boy's career earnings to $391,688. With the victory, the brown colt pushed his seasonal record to 9-8-0 from 19 starts.
