According to today's edition of the Harness Tracks of America Daily Newsletter, Hawthorne Racecourse has failed in its attempt to secure the 10th and final casino license in the state of Illinois.
The report states that the three finalist spots were awarded to the Chicago suburbs of Des Plaines and Rosemont on the west and Waukegan on the north of the 'Windy City.'
Hawthorne had submitted plans for a grand entertainment complex in the centre of Chicago.
NFL celebrity and Chicago icon Mike Ditka had endorsed Hawthorne's bid.
The HTA report states that the Illinois Gaming Board hopes to make a final choice by Christmas.
