Muscle Hill Takes NJSS Final

Muscle Hill was an impressive maiden-breaker on Thursday evening at The Meadowlands, and he sure picked a fine time to do it.

The rookie son of Muscles Yankee romped to a 1:57.2 score for trainer Greg Peck and driver Brian Sears in the $175,000 NJSS Final for trotting colts and geldings.

Sears worked out a second-over trip for the colt, who used a :27-second closing quarter en route to the one-length decision. Homer Jay (David Miller), who did most of the tempo-setting, finished second. Meyer Winsky (Ron Pierce) was third.

"He was on the right line quite a bit last week, and he was able to trot home in :27.3," said driver Brian Sears. "If we could get that correction made I thought he had a real big shot. The changes were made and he was straight tonight and everything worked out. He looks like he has the ability. He hasn't got tired yet and he has high speed."

Muscle Hill, who was purchased for $55,000 at last year's Harrisburg Yearling Sale, is owned by Jerry Silva of Long Beach, NY and T L P Stable of Kearny, NJ.
