The comeback for millionaire trotter Mccooeye didn't start off very well, but the classy campaigner found his way to victory lane on Thursday night at Rideau Carleton Raceway.

The homebred, who was making his third start following a layoff that dated back to September 30, 2004, picked up his 33rd lifetime victory thanks to a 1:58.1 score in an $11,000 conditioned trot for driver Marcel Barrieau and trainer John Smith.

The 10-year-old son of Shipps Speed, who took a career-best clocking of 1:55.1 as a four-year-old at the Hippodrome de Montreal, now boasts lifetime earnings of $1,108,000 for John Smith Racing Stb. Inc. of Woodlawn, Ontario.
