Eight Straight For Raising Rachel?

Unbeaten freshman filly, Raising Rachel, has been flawless in seven starts, but tonight, she'll be going postward in by far the biggest effort of her young career - the $501,600 Peaceful Way Stakes for two-year-old trotting fillies at Mohawk Racetrack.

The daughter of Yankee Glide would seem to have everything working in her favour: Post 2, John Kopas as her trainer, and a professional attitude beyond her years. But the remains of Hurricane Ike, predicted to soak southern Ontario this evening with heavy downpours, will add an element of unpredictability to tonight's contest.

How will these lightly-tested fillies handle a sloppy track, and wind and rain in their faces?

If Seaside lives up to her name, she might handle the elements better than some. Also sired by Yankee Glide, Seaside is trained by Jonas Czernyson and was second to Raising Rachel last week in the Peaceful Way elims.

She also captured her division of the Champlain Stakes at Mohawk a fortnight ago, and will have the same pilot, Jody Jamieson, tonight. She is listed as the 9-2 second favourite despite having drawn Post 10.
