Don Canning Passes

Funeral arrangements have been made for longtime horseman Don Canning of Shediac who passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2008 in Charlottetown, PE.

Canning had just enjoyed a wonderful day at the track before his passing.

Born in Springhill, NS he was the son of the late Arthur and Agnes (Paterson-Marr) Canning.

He was an avid horse enthusiast, a member of the Moncton and District Standardbred Association. Over the years he classified horses and was a presiding judge. He was very involved with Brunswick Downs.

A musician at heart, Canning enjoyed entertaining others in the company of various musicians, whether it was at a kitchen party or overseas representing the City of Moncton. During his tenure with the City of Moncton, he was in charge of Marketing and Promotions and at the time of his retirement he was the Business Manager of the Moncton Hawkes Hockey Club. Besides a love for horses, his grandchildren where his passion.

He is survived by his son Randy Canning (Pam Walsh) of Riverview and daughter Leesa Steeves (Chris) of Fredericton, sister Mary Clark of Ottawa and four loving grandchildren; Becky and Ricky Canning; Jeremy and Samantha Steeves, a special friend Pat Fownes. He was predeceased by his wife Lorna (Steeves) Canning, brothers Bill and Art; sisters Margaret, Eleanor and Loretta.

Visitation will take place at Cobb's Funeral Home and Cremation Center 330 Whitepine Rd., Riverview 869-2007 on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Cobb's Funeral Home Memorial Chapel on Monday, September 22 at 1:30 p.m.
