Campbell Takes Gerry Memorial Trot

John Campbell led the way home in the $10,000 Mr. and Mrs. Elbridge Gerry Memorial Trot for drivers in the Harness Racing Hall of Fame earlier this afternoon at Historic Track.

Campbell, driving Ironhorse, led at every call to win by a length in 2:00.1. Donnegal (Ray Remmen) was second and Tsarina (Berndt Lindstedt) was third.

Ironhorse is owned by Ted Altomari and trained by Michael Marx. Campbell is now 10 wins from the 10,000 mark.

"I had a good post position, a good gate horse, we controlled the fractions and it would have been pretty tough for me to get beat," Campbell said. "It's great to come here, people are so enthusiastic, they're here just to watch the horses, there's no betting."

After the race was over, Campbell joined seven other Hall of Fame drivers in signing photos for the crowd.

"It's just a good goodwill day for our industry," Campbell said.

The remainder of the Hall of Fame race finishing order was Penalty Shot (Clint Galbraith), Craigie Brae June (Jim Doherty), Keystone Stately (Ron Pierce), Thirty Trips (Mike Lachance) and Miss Vicky Velvet (Bob McIntosh).
